We were appointed by Aberdeen Standard to refurbish The Cursitor Building, within the wider context of the revitalisation of Chancery Lane and its public realm. Our design includes the extension of the top three floors of the seven-storey building, and the addition of new roof terraces offering awe-inspiring views to the south and west towards the Royal Courts of Justice. The scheme increases the building’s usable space from 8,640 sqm to 9,290 sqm. The primary core is repositioned to create a large area of contiguous space with abundant natural light, representing a vast improvement on the former space in which offices were arranged in a ‘race track’ formation around a long central core. The office entrance enjoys the benefit of the pedestrianised Cursitor Street, while maximising ground floor retail space.
